Saint-Noël-Chabanel School is one of the largest elementary schools in the CSDM.
It is composed of two pavilions facing each other and separated by 25th Avenue. The Pavillon des Découvreurs, originally built in 1958, includes two extensions completed in 2015.

The project involved the complete refurbishment of the original building, including the redesign and renovation of the gymnasium, the repair of its roof and rear façade, and the replacement of windows.

A major renovation of both the building envelope and interior was undertaken, prioritizing natural light integration, durable materials, student comfort and well-being, and high-quality design.

A sunlight study led to the addition of curtain walls on the east and west façades, optimizing daylight without increasing heat gain.

Particular attention was paid to the visual environment in order to create spatial coherence, enhance conviviality and comfort, and establish an architectural identity that fosters a sense of belonging.

The visual atmosphere was further enriched with colorful acoustic panels evoking clouds with rays of sunlight. Wall ceramics represent ocean waves, a marine theme echoed by new porthole-shaped openings.

The diamond pattern of the brick cladding doubles as a target for ball games while symbolizing, through its universal and colorful character, the cultural diversity of the neighborhood. Today, the gymnasium serves as a landmark within the school complex—an architecturally playful and inviting space dedicated to gathering.

This project demonstrates how a partial renovation can enhance coherence and the overall architectural atmosphere of an entire school.
